man and woman

Who we Are

  • Current or former straight spouses and partners of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people
  • Post disclosure couples
  • Our families and friends

What we do

We serve straight spouses, post disclosure couples, families and the community by:

Reaching out to increase visibility of straight spouses and accessibility to support

Healing and empowering straight spouses to cope constructively

Building bridges between spouses, within families and with the larger community through support, education and advocacy.

When straight spouses learn the truth that their partners are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, they need to know they are not alone. SSN provides a safe place for them to deal with this crisis. Through our shared experiences, spouses or partners learn to cope constructively with

  • Shock, hurt, anger and self blame
  • Deception, distrust and confusion
  • Powerlessness and grief
  • Loss of meaning in their lives
  • Their partner’s orientation/gender identity
  • Their own crisis of identity
  • AIDS, STDs, and other health issues
  • Effects on the children and relatives
  • Healing and moving on

  • SSN offers information about spouse, couple and family issues. Professionals and the wider community need to be aware of the impact on spouses and family members when a partner comes out. Addressing these unique issues lessens isolation, aids healing and provides education for everyone involved.
